Summary
When Merlin awoke the following morning, his shadow was sitting cross-legged against the wall, seemingly staring at him (as much as something without eyes could stare) and giving him a little wave as he blinked away the bleariness of slumber. He threw his legs over the side of his bed, sat up, and looked down at his feet upon the floor where they rested, shadowless. Looked back up to the silhouette on the wall, floating there quite independent of himself.
‘Um,’ he said, eloquently.

He could burn him.
That’s what one did with sorcerers wasn’t it? The moment that marred his first day in Camelot and the moment that signified its bitter end, the one and the same.
But no.
That wasn’t fair to himself or Mordred.

Amhar had seen portraits of Uncle Uther and Uncle Ambrosius, and this man looked nothing like them, but he knew this man was Arthur Pendragon.

He was about to say some utter bullshit. Arthur could just sense it.
”Arthur” said Merlin, shakily, “I’m pregnant. And it’s yours”
There it was.

Merlin is keeping a secret. No, not the magic. Not the "being in love with Arthur" thing, either. A third, unrelated secret. He could tell Arthur. Or he could fake a pregnancy and rope everyone into gaslighting Arthur. Obvious choice, when you put it like that. Gaslighting it is!

“I’ll fix it.” Merlin croaks. “I’ll fix everything. We’ll switch places. You’ll be back in Camelot in no time. You’ll see Gwen again. I promise.”
Arthur makes a noise of protest but Merlin shushes him. “I know you don’t trust me anymore but I will make everything right.” Merlin vows.
The sorcerer truly means this, Arthur knows. Sincerity is practically dripping from every word. It’s such a Merlin thing to promise, with that earnest and determined tone. It only scares Arthur more.

Summary
Across centuries of plagues, wars, and new names for old cruelties, Merlin endures. After Camlann he walks the long road alone, a sorcerer who will not die and a lover who cannot forget. When grief finally tears a seam in time, he falls back into Camelot on the first day of his destiny. This time Merlin is smarter, quiet where he must be, ruthless where it counts, and determined to change fate for his golden-haired king.
“That’s not very knightly of you, darling,” he called, voice lazy as a cat sunning on a sill.
Arthur turned. Blue eyes, quick and keen and infuriatingly curious, flicked over him. “Excuse me?”
“Using a servant as a moving target.” Merlin tipped his head toward the boy trotting in a circle, the shield clattering against his spine. “It’s crude. If you wanted to show off, you could have asked me to watch. I make an excellent audience.
A squire choked. The boy stumbled to a grateful halt.
Arthur’s mouth flattened into the princely version of a smile’s shadow. “Do you know who you’re talking to?”
“Handsome, overconfident, dangerously good with his hands,” Merlin said. “Likes knives more than apologies. I’ve met your type.”A.k.a Merlin fixes destiny with flirting,
