Summary
Finally given the chance at freedom after a decade of slavery, Primerose lands in Nassau with a hope to start fresh. When her initial plans for work are derailed, she finds herself treating the ill and injured out of the local brothel.
But change is coming to Nassau and her days back on land start to prove more treacherous than they had been at sea. She must navigate the unspoken laws of the land while witnessing the dawn of a new age to New Providence Island.

Howell says there's a chance he might remember, but amnesiac Silver has no reason to stick around. Flint reasons the best way to keep him there is to make him think he's their quartermaster.

It’s small, the lights always flicker because the entire district has problems with electrical lines and the smell of burnt wood lingers on the clothes due to the antique fireplace built into the farthest corner of the room. The walls are yellowish and the floor is sticky with spilled drinks from wasted customers. Right now, there’s one of them singing at the top of his lungs about a sailor and his matey and the sea that in the end swallows them both.

The idea of Soulmates, while often causing more conflict than it resolves, had generally been accepted as a reason for otherwise reasonable people to do extraordinarily stupid things.
Why else would John Silver have gotten on a merchant vessel destined to head right through pirate territory?
