“Father?”
A soft voice broke through the Priest's daydream. It had a hint of an accent, low and thick like honey or maybe molasses. The father closed his small book, tucked it away in his robes before turning his attention to the screen between the booths. He could just make out the shape of what he knew was a young woman. It was hard to see her features, but her purple hair was familiar. Imogen Temult.
“Yes, my child?”
“Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned. It has been 10 years since my last confession.”
"Ten years? You are so young, would that put you at-"
"First communion. The last time I was in confession was the first time." The honeyed voice clarified. "It was right after that that mama left and I just- I hadn’t felt like I had much to confess that was worth taking time of our good Father."
"Well, what brings you back today child?"
"My daddy said I needed to come in and give it a try. Said it would be good for me. So, here I am." There was just the slightest edge of defiance in her voice. Something Father Thull had not expected from the slight of a girl.
"And why does your father think you need to come in, dear child?"
"He thinks I'm wrong. That I am broken."

The only survivor was the Bradbury's daughter, Laudna. Vex'ahlia, dealing with her boyfriend's death, takes two-year-old Laudna rather than let her go into the foster system. Its been three years and today is Laudna's first day of Kindergarten and Vex is kind of freaking out about it. She hopes that whoever Laudna's teacher is, she knows what she's doing.

Hopeless pining lesbian Imogen is desperate to be fed from and Laudna is resistant to believe Imogen's feelings for her are anything other than the result of her natural vampiric lure.

There’s a broad chested man, wearing a suit jacket made with a deep velvet black fabric, clearly expensively made. Beside him is a beautiful woman, her hair pinned up in a delicately intricate bun and wearing gloves that stop just beneath her elbow. They look like a matched set, one perfectly complimenting the other.
The third figure, standing a little ways off from the other two, looks like she belongs in a matched set, just not the one in front of Imogen.

In all her twenty-five years she had seen no other place than the direct surroundings of her hometown Gelvaan. Sitting tucked between two high-rising plateaus and a lush pine forest, the town didn’t have much going for it other than outstretched fields of corn and wheat, alternating with pastures where sheep and other cattle roamed and grazed. Laudna had wandered for quite the while before by happenstance stumbling upon a small ramshackle abandoned cabin in the middle of some pine tree woods. She had been unlucky in her pursuit for a place to settle and stay for pretty much all her adult life and had grown quite accustomed to the lone roaming of places just outside of civilization. Often she had snuck into and slept in sheds, in haystacks or — in the not unlikely case she had to flee into the woods once again — in old burrows made by wolves or other wild animals.
