Summary
Dove found a new activity. She began to play through the mod, but… at some point down the line she realized, though in this hazy memory, it’s uncertain whether it came before or after the incidents that followed her decision, they weren’t lying, and that she was in terrible danger playing this mod. There was one thing standing in between the void and her, and it didn’t feel like it was the screen she viewed the world through.
And so, on that fateful January, she borrowed Nevadean technology to create vessels with which to explore and experiment with the mod, with help from a certain green-clad, math-teaching inventor, of course. The bodies were molded with remains of old and given memories of lives they never had. By some miracle, everything turned out perfectly. She nodded and, after she made the vessels A-Z, she got the first one, Aaron, into the mod.
How she came to regret her decisions.
How she wished she could tell them the nature of her existence.
How she would find herself and the void much closer than would’ve ever been comfortable in certain circumstances.
How she knew the fear that came with knowledge.

Summary
The mission was never meant to be safe—only scientific. Unfortunately, it also turned out to be interdimensional. One minute it was a routine high-risk survey, the next it was an unscheduled arrival in front of an alien fortress that looked far too expensive to exist outside of science fiction.
The implications were alarming enough: a species that treated space-time like a flexible guideline rather than a law of physics.
The real complication, however, was the commander. He smiled constantly, watched Yan Qing with unsettling enthusiasm, and seemed far more interested in one particular scientist than the mission brief had prepared anyone for. Yan Qing had the growing suspicion that the expedition wouldn’t just rewrite humanity’s understanding of the universe—it was also about to completely ruin his personal life.

You want to pull away, to break the suffocating proximity, but something in his gaze pins you in place. It’s not just authority. It’s an obsession, an aching need to know you. To have you. To possess you.
“Kindness is not my trade.” he continues, and the honesty is almost kinder than a lie. “Care is. Protection is. I intend to keep you from the Pestilence as long as it pleases me. Whether that is kindness depends on the patience of time and the constitution of your heart.”
He looks at you with the single-mindedness of someone who catalogues organisms by their capacity to survive and by the fissures they leave in the world. You want to pull back. You want to run; you have to run. But when he leans closer - so close you can feel the faint, medicinal scent of vinegar and lavender radiating from him - and speaks your name, something in your chest unclenches.
“Physician...” he whispers, brushing a thumb lovingly along the curve of your cheek. “Stay with me. Please."

Thomas’ head whips around in the direction of the sad fizzing noises and his eyes lock onto the scene, breath coming short. Slightly hunched over, arms awkwardly floating in front of him to keep the front of his shirt from sticking to his body, is the most dashing, soda-soaked man Thomas has ever seen. His brows are furrowed as one of his eyes squints a bit more than the other and SHIT, THE GODDAMN SODA MACHINE.
Alternatively; A harmless workplace accident leaves Thomas undeniably enamored, and undeniably mortified. The summer continues as such.

Robert isn't afraid to say that his favorite part of SDN is Royd's lab.
Well, maybe he's a little afraid. He shudders to think of what the Z-Team would do if he ever admitted out loud that they were anything less than the reason he woke up in the morning. For a team of former super villains, they have surprisingly fragile egos.
But the lab feels like home in a way nowhere else does. The smell of soldering irons and spilled coolant eases the tension from his shoulders, lessens the tightness around his rib cage. It reminds him of the rare cool days in the deepest winters of Torrence, when the air is cool enough to show his breath during a morning run. For just a moment, breathing is a little easier.
