Summary
If only Jupiter got a critical extra three minutes of consciousness in the clinic, if only she slept for four hours rather than twelve in Caine’s hideout, if only in a somewhat humorous fashion the author could strong-arm them both into slightly better communication… and most importantly, if only the author would allow Balem to really express his inner creative streak. Then, then the author could offer crackfic with entirely too much plot, more than expected personal growth, the same expected crate of lemons (signature required at delivery), just a few trigger warnings, and a high level of satisfaction by the end.

At the end of the story, we go back to the beginning, which if we had at the first, might have given away too many true things.
OR,
Seraphi tries to outmaneuver Fate. She fails. Happily, so does Balem. Titus joins the crew as Fate’s happy pawn, and Kalique is left out of this one entirely, which only proves her wisdom.
This fic was intended to be the finale of Venus In Effigy, but life doesn't always work out the way we plan.

Jupiter’s peaceful new life lasted about six months before it was disrupted again. Five months and twenty-three days, to be exact. The whole thing started with Kalique suddenly appearing by her apartment door and politely asking if she could come in.
"I’m not going to his birthday party, Balem tried to murder me!” Kalique clicked her tongue.
“I see.” she said, her beautiful face troubled. “Well, I understand, Jupiter. If you do not wish to come, there is nothing I can say that will convince you — although, you will be greatly missed.”
Kalique stood gracefully, made a simple curtsy and walked towards the door. When she reached Caine she stopped and faced him.
“I suppose I’ll see you at the party, at least, Mr Wise.” Jupiter caught a flash of something in Caine’s face.
“What?” she asked, a sinking feeling in her stomach. Kalique turned to Jupiter again, her understanding smile on her face.
“Mr Wise have been assigned with security during the celebration,” Kalique said slowly. “I just learned the news before we arrived on Earth.”
