Anyways, continuing on… “So, I kind of have your brother passed out drunk here–well, I think he’s drunk–and it’s not really my fault, just so you know, I’m the bartender.” There was silence for a moment from the other side, and Wei Wuxian started to sweat. Fuck, did he just come off as really weird? To be fair, he’s a complete stranger who called, claiming to have the guy’s drunk brother. Ah, that sounds really creepy now that he says it. Fuck.

"Can a dish bring back what has been lost?" this search pushes him further and further away from the home he once knew.
Lan Xichen, a talented chef and owner of a Michelin-starred restaurant in Suzhou, is renowned for his elegant, minimalist cuisine, transforming traditional Chinese flavors into modern works of art. Despite success and fame, Lan Xichen asks himself: "How much of ourselves can we put on a plate to make ourselves understood?". His cuisine is an expression of himself, but it doesn't always find the recognition he seeks, especially from critics like Jiang Cheng.
Their meeting becomes a mutual challenge, where each tries to answer the other question: can a dish truly express what it carries inside?

What happened to Wei Wuxian in the 13 years he was dead?
When MXTX was posed this question in an interview, she stated: "He's in a state of chaos, not quite conscious but he didn't lose all his senses, just like he's in an endless nightmare."
This fic is a bittersweet interpretation of what Wei Wuxian might have experienced throughout his years without a corporeal body.
It's not all bad, there is some adorable fluff mixed in as well, so don't worry! Some sweetness to ease the sting, and of course Wei Wuxian gets a happy ending with his soulmate in the end - since this fic is meant to be canon compliant after all.
I wrote this fanfic with the intention that it could fit into the novel without any disturbance to canon - so hopefully that's the case!
