Steve's already pulled out his own pack, a cigarette between his lips as he speaks, muffled, "You know, these things will kill you," even while he hands one to Eddie. Eddie notices that Steve's knuckles are split as he cuffs his hand around the flame, keeping it safe from the wind, which is good; that means he put up a fight. Maybe he even won.
"Slowly and painfully, I hope," Eddie hums in thanks, lighting up and taking his first drag in a long while. He enjoys the burn, the warmth spreading through his limbs, gestures to the area around his own eye as he pokes the bear, "Trouble in paradise?"
It's the wrong thing to ask, but Eddie hasn't ever shied away from saying the wrong thing at the wrong time, and Steve's features harden in response. "It's nothing. It won't affect the job."
"Sure," Eddie agrees, not an ounce of belief in his tone.
