Crick Wellsley (penname: Christopher West) has a passion for writing, and so he secretly publishes queer erotic novels while working parttime as venue security. He's been in a writing slump for months, and has no idea how to get himself out of it. Enter Temenos Mistral, a prolific mystery novelist with dozens of books under his belt, and he may have just what Crick needs to figure it out.

Temenos puts on his Thinking Face. “There is a legend,” he begins slowly. “That the eight gods we worship now were not always eight, but twelve. There are some scriptures from old testaments in the Book of Brand that by many are interpreted to mean Brand could move so quickly in battle, it appeared as if there were two of him. However, this ‘second Brand’ is described as having six arms, a different weapon in each hand. Some of these scholars even believe it is a different god altogether, though they are never named.”
Crick gulps. “Six arms?”
Temenos nods. “I wonder…”
“What are you scheming now?”
Temenos moves his hand from Crick’s arm to the small of his back, applying just enough pressure that Crick stumbles forward a step. “It appears the ‘second Brand’ has taken a liking to you. Approach the dais and answer their call.”

Summary
Crick Wellsley becomes a Godsblade on the eve of his twenty-fourth birthday. His first assignment? Personal guard to the Crown Prince of the Holy Kingdom of Solistia. Summary
Temenos reaches up and pulls the hood of Crick’s own cape upward and over his head, blocking Crick’s view of the alley entrance. “With your life?”
Crick swallows. “Yes.”
Temenos casts one last glance at the alley entrance, murmurs a quick prayer to Aelfric, and then looks back at Crick. His eyes are ablaze with adrenaline and something else that Crick doesn’t have time to place before he says, “Follow my lead,” and pulls Crick into a kiss.

Summary
The world is a cruel and irrational place. Temenos, for all his claims that fighting is not what he does, keeps fighting, keeps crawling toward his goal with patience and determination. Temenos is the only thing in Crick’s life that he can truly devote himself to and expect the same devotion in return.
Crick dreams of being a sword for the people. He can be, here and now, Temenos’s sword. Crick will not let him down.

Something softens in Verso’s expression.
Or: the Maelle ending. Coming to terms with being brought back and repainted. Gustave is looking for some answers, so he goes to the one person who can provide them. Verso is absolutely done with this life, but feels obligated to at least talk to him.
They find that being a copy of a dead man is less unbearable when you're not alone.

Summary
The ringing note of a concert A is played by the oboe, echoing on its own in the space. It’s picked up by the wind section, followed rapidly by the brass, and the familiar feeling of an orchestra calibrating takes over Caleb. The tonal adjustments as each person brings their instrument into alignment sinks into him and something inside Caleb shifts in recognition as Essek leads the strings into their own tuning.
It’s like something is waking up, like something unfurling and firing across long-unused paths of memory. His hands shake slightly, as he raises his bow and joins them, fingers fumbling against the pegs and fine tuners that give him control over his instrument.

He stands just a ways back, slinging holy light at his companions, keeping them alive and afloat as they hack and slash at the god’s form, his breath caught in his throat, trying to worm its way around the fact that this is a god, an honest god, one that has caused every bit of grief he has ever felt in his life.
