Summary
Queen Ella Ashmore rose from the ashes of her fallen house, radiant and terrible. Forged of fire and starlight, Ella defeated the evil that threatened to destroy the throne and all of The Lands That Are.
However, there is more to the story which unfurls in the castle on the hill. The Queen must adapt to her form, her re-kindled life, if it can be called so... while processing the past that she will never get back.
However, it is a little easier with her beloved, faithful knights, and a certain advisor whose loyalty seems to go further than just a servant's oath...
[I got so invested in Ella and Tadius. And then I rewatched and got so invested in Ella being an undead entity... so I combined them, naturally!!]

Summary
Ella Ashmore has begun her reign as queen, advised by Tadius. The people love her, but the nobles have started to chafe under a rule more stringent than the old king's. As Ella and Tadius navigate life at court, they find themselves increasingly attracted to each other, but years of service to the repugnant prince have left Tadius with serious hang-ups around sex and love, which he will have to overcome if they ever want to be together.
Forces from outside also threaten the budding romance. The Church of the Nine Good Gods has sent an envoy to Ella's court, supposedly to bless Ashmore and remove any taint of witchcraft, but the Church has other, darker purposes in mind. The trolls have started behaving strangely, worrying the Grizzwald Bastard that they may be planning an attack on the kingdom to avenge the ancient and powerful troll who posed as Ella's stepmother. Meanwhile, the Fairy Queen of Sweet Dreams senses a growing darkness from beyond the realms that threatens her and the true gods, all of whom have been trapped in other realms.
Can Ella and Tadius find the time to find each other? And even if they succeed, will there be a world for them? -

Tadius stammered a few times in a way that made Ella’s heart soar with victory, before sighing with a rather sorry blush. “I apologise, Ella. I’m not intending to undermine you, it’s just… this is the first Goodfest without the usual script that the old king’s family attended to. For once, I am rather out of my depth, which is precisely where I’m not meant to be.”
Well, at least he could recognise it. Ella chuckled softly, taking her time to fuss with his own collar. A little caring, but also a little tasting of his own medicine.
It's the Nine Days of Goodfest and Winterwill, a very real winter celebration in Bog's Hollow. Ella and Tadius explore a new festivity, and get even closer along the way.

Ella Ashmore, undeniably, was dead. He wouldn’t live in denial of such a thing. It wouldn’t be useful.
Her life had ended.
And yet she wore pearls in her hair, now, and crowns of feathery green stone.
She was wrapped in fine gowns by girls who discreetly rubbed their palms together as they walked up a great many stairs to her chambers each morning so as to avoid her discomfort.
She smiled with a practiced ease and spoke cleanly and crisply from atop her gilded throne. She had all her teeth (and no new ones) which remained only as sharp as they’d been before (which wasn’t all that much).
Sometimes, she had him check. Had him count as she tipped her head back. Had him swear on his name as to whether anything looked any different. It hadn’t in all the times he’d checked but he never rolled his eyes at her request.
(AKA Ella Ashmore was only mostly dead...and of all people Tadius is, surprising nobody, pretty okay with that).

Ella’s claim to the throne is shaky at best. There are whispers she killed the king herself, either with her own hands or with dark magic she learned from her stepmother. When the dust settles, Tadius recommends she go on a tour of the kingdom. Meet the people, both noble and common, and eventually, find a suitable marriage to secure her line, as was the responsibility of the Prince before her.
But the Lands that Are are filled with mysteries, old and new, and our heroine’s journey is not quite over.

When asked about her coworker, Thad, the first thing Emma Perkins would say was that they weren’t friends. Like, who could be friends with a guy like that? She might say it with a wry turn to her smile, and might be remembering that time he drove her home from the mechanic, but it would be true all the same. Like, c’mon, Dude, it was just a coffee shop.
When asked about his coworker, Ella, Paul Matthews’ first question would be: who? They’d worked in different office suites within CCRP’s labyrinthian construction and it wasn’t like anybody was still talking about The Ashmore Foundation, not-so-recently acquired anymore, and the not-so-mysterious death of its former CEO. They’d shared an elevator only once and not said a word to each other.
Neither she nor Thad had much to do with the big picture stuff going on. They were more of a...subplot at the end of the world. A b-side that didn’t merit much discussion, so the story goes.
