He was too harsh for fragility.
It was the mantra that kept him strong for twenty-four years, kept him alive, kept him from getting attached to anyone or anything. He'd never gotten to be a proper teenager: he never finished school, he never went to any festivals, never took anyone out on an awkward first date and tried to kiss them at the fireworks display. When other teenagers were worrying about driver’s licenses and girlfriends, he was jumping between homeless shelters, stealing toothpaste and bottled water from convenience stores.
He laid awake, face sour, most of the night, staring at his hands stretched towards the ceiling. He would start small azure fires in his palms and snuff them out, over and over. He was stupid for not asking her name. He was stupid for wanting her name in the first place. Maybe he was just altogether stupid.
The following month, a monster attacked his apartment building. Then things really went to shit.

“Miss me?” Dabi growled again, his eyes reflecting the candles’ lights. The red hue sunk deep in his pupils, and when he spoke, sharp teeth just barely poked past his lips. Keigo’s eyes slowly landed on the hand on his left, and he saw that it was now blackened with soot and ash, claws digging into the wood.
“You’re a demon,” Keigo hissed with fear.
Dabi seemed pleased to hear it. “Why, thank you,” he coaxed, raising his knees to the seat. He knelt over the priest, looking down at him with curiosity and satisfaction. “You don’t look afraid.”
“I do not fear what repulses God,” he said with such conviction that Dabi seemed to falter, just for a moment.
“Do I repulse you?” the demon whispered, knowing the answer. Keigo did, too, so he asked his own question.
“What do you want?”

Spoilers: Sam Winchester gives the best advice and knows all, young sensei. This fic has some of the best Cas moments (both funny and sad) that I could totally see canon Cas being capable of. The end of Chapter 04 almost made me cry, but everything was made all better by end in both Heaven and on Earth (aka big epic Heaven showdown = familiar faces, angelic true forms & a resulting 9 to 5 job). Castiel's humanity, the humor and
the Metatron solution made this a really adventurous, incredibly emotional and satisfying story to read....
