Summary
Memories are like a garden. If one doesn’t nurture them, they will fade like a flower, forgotten and abandoned. Memories are the stories we tell each other to make sense of the world and, more importantly, to remember what is lost.
“Once upon a time there was a beast…,” our gardener starts their first story, the beginning, after the end of another story they are hesitant to tell, for the memories have already faded. They plant the seeds, tell stories, and lead us through the ages of Teyvat as a smiling shadow of one of the greatest gods of all time: Morax, God of War, Lord of Geo, the Archon of Liyue. We see the beginnings of a highly revered god, who found a toy and who took this toy through the ages. And the beginnings aren’t refined, aren’t pristine. They are rough, awkward, and chaotic.
One memory at a time. One memory of a world that is already lost.

Xiao broke off, words vanishing in heavy breathing as he bowed his head even further, hunching his shoulders as though in pain.
Zhongli crossed the floor, stopping only when Xiao pulled away.
“It’s Wriothesley,” Xiao managed to say, and Zhongli thought his heart might stop.

“Look what we have here!”
It is the alpha from earlier, an alpha Xiao recognises, even if he does not know; he makes sure that the names and faces of every single one of Zhongli’s guests are hammered into his mind. He also remembers seeing the man a couple of times, mingling with the crowds.
Xiao pushes himself away from the wall he had been leaning heavily against and forces himself to straighten. “May I help you with something?”
The alpha takes a step forward, and Xiao feels his hackles rise. “Oh, there’s a lot you can help me with, omega.”

Or, Xiao is saved from an alpha by Zhongli when his suppressants unexpectedly fail while on the job, in what is almost a mirror incident of how they met years ago. Zhongli, driven more by his own instincts then he realises when Xiao completely succumbs to his heat, brings him up to his office, then back to his home, to care for him in all the ways he needs.Series

Lumine has been crowned the next for the throne after her twin brother, Aether, ran away. What the people of the Empire of Khaenriah don't know is exactly she has little power until she has a male heir, which, being a secret council, makes all major decisions for her. This council claims to be the closest to Celestia, who urges them to have the power of the other 7 nations if they wish to survive without a god. In recent decades, after many of the old councils lost their sanity, alchemy has started to spread to the other 5 nations, especially in Sumaru and Mondstat, leaving Khaenriah without its leverage to keep the nations under its thumb. So, to keep its control over the other nations, the council has decided to copy an old, liyuan tradition that was used by now dead gods, to form a royal harem for Lumine to not only produce an heir, but also to have a hostage from each nation with some political power.

But Childe endures the whispers and the blades, not for himself, but for the people forced to follow him. He’ll play the part of the monster, the shield, the pawn—anything but the broken man he truly is.
He'll hide his mind from the prying eyes of people who want him dead, he'll mask his feelings from the people who twisted the knife in his back, so he can play the best role he's ever gotten. Even if that role humiliated him and stomped on his pride, he'll play it nevertheless. And he'll play it well.
He must, because he has to leave before he loses his mind.
The story doesn’t end with a happy ever after. Not for villains. Not for Childe.

“Allow me to explain,” Aite said, voice sickly-sweet — just like the stench of overripe fruit that pervaded her hall. “I believe I know how this…mistake…was made.”

Xiao first meets Morax when he is still enslaved to his first master. He does not expect kindness, especially not when his goddess puts him forth as the culprit in the massacre of a human settlement on a contested border.
Morax, though, surprises him.

Zhongli slithers around him—actually slithers, tail curling, wings shifting in a way that disturbs the ambient humidity—and Childe realizes he is not allowed to leave. He is, in fact, being hoarded.
“Okay,” he says slowly. “This is, like. A thing, right?”
Zhongli blinks.
“A thing?”
“Yeah. Like a dragon thing. Like the part where you—" He gestures vaguely around the den. “—nest and hoard stuff and get unreasonably attached to shiny things and start calling your boyfriend mine in a tone that suggests you’ll level a mountain if someone looks at him funny.”
Zhongli doesn’t respond.
Instead, the dragon lowers his head, breathes in at Childe’s neck, and growls.
In which bleeding out is less dangerous than flirting while bleeding out in front of a dragon with hoarding problems.
(Or, maybe Childe should stop getting mortally injured in increasingly creative ways if he doesn’t want Zhongli to hoard him like a limited-edition relic with attachment issues.)
