Summary
Despite there being no evil/magic in Hawkins, it still isn’t safe for Will Byers. Since he was a kid, everyone, including his own father, bullied him for being a queer. The only people that hadn’t were some of the closest people in his life, the ones that actually took the chance to get to known him. His mom and Jonathan, obviously, Mike Wheeler, Lucas Sinclair, Dustin Henderson, Max Mayfield, Robin Buckley, and a few other mutual friends that he wasn’t as close with. Will Byers knew one thing that nobody else knew. They were right. He was a queer, a fag. He hated that. He wanted to be normal, to like girls, but he couldn’t help but notice his closest friend, Mike Wheeler, more than he had ever noticed any other girl. Will had accepted that it would never happen.
Mike, on the other hand, felt the same way. He was just having some trouble realizing it. Growing up in a wealthy, middle class, religious family put this mindset in him that he couldn’t be himself. The only thing keeping him from being a total asshole was his empathy, and his own unrecognized queerness, of course. Will had shown him a side of himself that he never knew about before. Him and Will could be weird together. A different kind of weird.

Summary
ᝰ.ᐟ Highschool is hard. People talk, and people walk. Will Byers struggles to keep his sanity as the bullying is non-stop. Mike Wheeler, who merely just wants to help him, gets shut out. But what can Will do when Mike continues to protect him? And what will Mike do when the bullying begins to involve him too? Does he keep fighting? Or does he give up?

In that book a character was named Alec; that didn’t say much though. Maybe the person who had left it there was named Alec, or maybe the person it was actually destined for had that name. Will felt like he was intruding on some sort of private conversation. He had nothing to do with that whole deal but still, he was dying of curiosity, so he flipped the box over.
And then, suddenly, he had everything to do with that box.

It's just Will's luck that he happens to feel the way he does about his lifelong best friend who happens to be his new sister’s boyfriend.
