The Paladin is the heart, but whose heart is he really carrying if the Party does not need his protection anymore now that Lord Vecna is gone? El is not that “someone”, El is here - in his book, in their conversations, in their laughter, in their tears - but Will is not. Will is a distant memory in the back of his mind, a bittersweet beat of his heart when he crosses his mind. And Mike needs to come at peace with that if he wants to be worthy of being a (his?) Summary
Stranger Things reimagined from the start as a D&D world. This story isn't much like the original due to the actual D&D roles and monsters. I tried to keep things similar, but with such a uniquely different setting, it was hard. This is a byler fic, but since I decided to write from the very begining it might be more of a slow burn than the unfinished original lmao. I hope that my writing is satisfactory enough that I can gain enough people who want to keep reading! Yes, there will be smut later on, and some of it will be concerning, just like you freaks like. Will could tell it was mainly in worry. His eyebrows were drawn tight, the line of his mouth firm, eyes glowing in the lantern’s gold light.
“Your Highness,” he said quietly, trying to steady his breathing, “what were you thinking?”
A tremor slipped into his voice. “You could have been hurt.”

Will laughed as the tarp behind Jonathan fell again while taking photos while his mum picked up the phone. She frowned and Will could faintly hear Karen Wheeler’s frantic voice. Joyce lowered the phone to her shoulder and mouthed the words, “Mike has been missing since last night.”
The old cold feeling washed over Will again. No Mike probably stayed at Lucas’ house or something, right?

It’s 1989, the summer before the party splits off for college. Mike’s campaign is long enough to last the whole summer, and a widely known rule within the players is that they must force Mike to make up an NPC for someone to flirt with at least once per session. Lucas has taken advantage of this rule more than once just to annoy Mike, but almost everyone has one or multiple personalized NPCs already. Except Will.
Will has been anticipating having to join in on the fun, considering this might be the last full campaign with the entire friend group. He’s just been nervous… that is, until Lucas points out this fact to the whole table and begs him to go for it to “annoy Mike”. Will jumps on the opportunity and surprises everyone, especially the supposedly completely put together DM who now has to look Will in the eyes and flirt with him.

Will is captured by Vecna once again, forced to live through different realities, and one thing remains constant about every single one; Mike and Will are in a relationship. Is this just a tease from Vecna to break Will even more or is there a deeper meaning behind each reality?
At first, Will can't seem to remember why he is there in the first place, why and how he is switching realities. Will struggles to understand his situation as he falls deeper and deeper in love with Mike with every reality before it gets torn from under his feet.
Will he ever get back to his Mike safely? Will it even matter that he gets back? Mike doesn't like him the way the Mikes do in the alternate realities.

Will thought things were supposed to be easier after Vecna was defeated. Instead, Mike is missing, Eleven is dead, and months have passed without answers. The last time Will spoke to Mike, he was spiraling—insisting Vecna might still be alive, that Eleven might be too, that none of them were ever truly safe. Then Mike disappeared. No note. No explanation. Nothing.
Everyone else has left Hawkins, busy rebuilding their lives, and Will can’t shake the feeling that he’s the only one who still cares that Mike is gone. Or maybe that guilt is his alone to carry.
Will tells himself the strangeness is over—until he returns to his apartment and finds a massive hole torn through the floor. Sitting at his dining table, casually eating an apple, is Mike Wheeler. Except this Mike is wearing strange, battered black armor, and there’s something wrong about him.
