A revisionist au utilizing the characters from TLOK but in a vastly different setting with drastically changed conflicts. Take everything you know about the setting in TLOK and chuck it in the garbage. This is totally different. There is no republic. There is no 1920s New York City-esque place in which the story unfolds. This is sticking to a setting far more reflective and attached to that of the original Avatar The Last Air Bender. Also for purposes you will soon see, this entire story operates under the notion that Korra has to take time to learn each element rather than being gifted with them out of the gate as was done in the main show.

Out of all the nations Korra never visited between 170 AG and 174 AG, she never visited the Fire Nation and met the Royal Family. That needed to happen. And Korra gets to meet the expansive family that Izumi created and thus explain why Iroh II is a general in the Republic forces. She gets rather introspective about a future with Asami as well.

After meeting with the president, Korra was letting off steam at a small port in a town adjacent to Republic city with Iroh there to listen. There, out in the ocean, the Avatar spotted an ominous light that could have been a spirit. Or it could have been something worse.
