Jon's never been terribly comfortable with loose threads, and ever since he learned Martin's fanfiction history included self-insert stories featuring him (well, an exagerrated, incredibly violent, theatrical, steampunk pirate version of him), he's been rather... distracted. Since they are in town already, Jon decides a little detour to the library is in order.

To Martin's horror and Jon's euphoric joy, it has come to light that, in his younger years, Martin used to write self-insert fanfiction about one of the characters from the obscure band The Mechanisms. This character happend to be Jon's stage persona, First Mate Jonny d'Ville. Martin would like to pretend this revelation never happened. Jon cannot rest until he has found these fanfictions...

This is why he doesn’t do follow-up investigations…
Who needs a timeline and comprehensive plot when you have shenanigans and fun? I am in deep denial about the tragedies.

The Magnus Institute started the day normally, but by lunch time everything went to shit. The police got the call around two pm, by the time they arrived the fire department was there as well dealing with the fire on the archives, or what was left of them, nothing more than ashes and soot. Basira stared at the damage and couldn't wrap her head around it.
Down the stairs leading to the archives, the place was, from wall to wall, carbonized. Not a single thing there remained intact. Only the metal bookshelves were left standing but only barely so, they were blackened and bent due to the temperature of the fire, some of them were even half melted.

It is 1934, and the Magnus Institute has not YET been infested with worms, though Mr. Blackwood surely has rambled on about them plenty to the Archivist’s horror. Jonathan Sims reads a statement about one Arthur Lester that feels far too much like a man reaching into a different sort of wasp’s nest, (or like one is reaching into HIM) though, and curiosity truly is an awful sort of thing. He’s always been quite a moth to a flame, hasn’t he?
Or; AU in which Arthur and John are part of the TMA universe but everyone is in 1934 and things get Insectoid.
