“I can. I’ll stay with Holly,” Mike responds and Will feels one of his fingers brush against Will’s. He looks up at Mike and he sees him pleading with Will to stay with them through his eyes.
As if she can read Mike’s mind, Joyce says, “Will why don’t you stay back with them too, okay? I don’t want you in harm's way.”
“Okay,” Will responds. He feels Mike’s pinky finger touch his again, but this time, Mike wraps it all the way around Will’s and squeezes them together before letting go.

Why was the final fight with Vecna so easy? Why did Will have to come out to everyone in order to face his fear of losing his friends and family? Why was Will’s painting for Mike never talked about? These are some of the questions I had after watching the final season of Stranger Things, and here is my spin on what really happened in Hawkins Indiana, 1987.
Caution: contains Mike Wheeler with half a brain, Will Byers with most of a brain, some death, some poor attempts at flirting, multiple dimensions, and the end of the world. Not exactly in that order.

He reached for Will's hand, just like they used to do when they were younger, squeezing it twice, a silent reminder that they were together in this, nothing would break them apart. For a moment, he was grounded.
Then it happened again, the pressure.
A tight grip closed around Mike's body but it wasn't Will. He could feel it taking over him, controlling him, pulling him tight, leaving him breathless. He wanted to tell Will that he loved him so deeply, but something stronger than his own will was holding him back.

Will and Mike are both under Vecna's curse, unaware that much of what's happening may not be real. If they dare to confess the love they've kept buried for years, will it set them free, or become the very thing Vecna uses against them?
