Will steps into the woods. Birds chirp around him, and squirrels run up the trees. It's been six months since Vecna was finally defeated, and now everyone is finally beginning to settle. Everyone except for Will. He can't seem to get out of fight or flight mode, and everything's been wrong. His body feels off, heavy and achy, while his concentration is shot. No one noticed when he stopped showing up to things, stopped answering his radio. El will chatter every night about what her and Mike were up to that day.
And it seems to take all of Dustin's energy to keep moving, and to show up himself. Lucas is with Max, and no one noticed when Will started to fade into the background. He knew if he stopped trying, this is what would happen. He knew as soon as he had to beg for their attention. It's ok though, he's always known his place. And now it's fine for him to step back, and let them all breathe without him. Every morning he takes another walk like this one, trying to chase away the ache in his joints that make it hard to move. Part of him knows that he should say something, that this isn't normal pain.
That something is seriously wrong, but he can't bring himself to.

“Nothing important.” He shut the book and shoved it into the bag beside him. He glanced back at the guy who was eyeing him curiously. Steve rolled his eyes before turning back. “Can I help you with anything? Customers aren’t supposed to be here.” The guy snorted then held out his hand.
“Eddie Munson,” he said, smirking. Steve smiled, the name rang a bell but he couldn’t quite place it. “I’m friends with Robin, she told me to wait back here.” Steve smiled and nodded, shaking his hand.
Eddie and Robin are friends and Eddie hangs around Scoops. It changes everything.

Will tugs at his hair in the mirror. His disastrous bowl cut's grown out a bit, and his shoulders have broadened. He can't stand to look at his face, the point of his chin, the eeriness of his eyes.
Pressure grows in his temples, behind his sinuses, tingling all the way down to his fingers. Power trembles, like it's a caged tiger anticipating release. He tamps it down anyways.
He's not a hero. He's- he's just a background character that got a little too unlucky.
Or, my take on Volume 1, Season 5. Hopefully I'll pump this all out before Volume 2 gets released, so I can pretend that this is canon and everyone lives happily ever after.

“How can I be Rapunzel if I’m standing right here, dipshit?” Steve fires back. “I’ve been driving you shitheads around all week! My Dad’s an asshole, sure, but wouldn’t I be locked up in some-some tower right now if I were Rapunzel!”
“But there are locks,” Hopper interrupts. “On all your windows, your clothes, your door.” Rage claws at his throat, ready to roar and tear into Richard Harrington. “Lucas said there’s no handle on the inside of your room.” Who modifies a door to trap a child?
Steve stares, slack-jawed as if he hit him. The boy closes his eyes, hands running through his hair, and the room falls quiet. “Ok,” he says after a moment. “I know how it looks, but my Dad switches to a regular handle when they leave. I’m not exactly stuck. And he only locks the door when I’m grounded!”
