Summary
It is Yuletide in Camelot. On the eve before Yule, Arthur and Merlin profess their love. Then Arthur finds out about Merlin's magic and his years of deception. He is hurt and angry until the spirits of Yuletide come to him and show him the full truth about Merlin. There is some angst along the way, but an eventual happy ending makes for a satisfying holiday story. This tale is, of course, inspired by Dickens' timeless Christmas story: "A Christmas Carol."
This is a slightly expanded and freshly edited version of a work I posted a while back.

So, when Arther Pendragon was informed of the king’s death, he only stilled within his bed. A stunned gasp caught in his throat, his hooded eyes downturn to stare at the sheets beneath him…

After the sudden death of Uther Pendragon, Arthur is thrusted into the role of king. As he is haunted by his father’s expectations, he uncovers hidden truths about those he trust. One wonders what destiny has written in the blood and sweat of innocence.

Having your head smashed into a concrete wall isn’t something Merlin would recommend. “Don’t you fucking dare yell at me. Do you understand? How dare you be so insolent. You know, I was going to give you a small kick and be done with it, let the Prince deal with you himself as I’m sure he does. But no one disrespects me like that, boy. You hear me?”Merlin knows that Arthur doesn't truly hurt him because he wants to, he knows that the prince is just used to horseplay. Merlin also knows that Arthur would never beat him, or any servant for that matter, and he's secure in his knowledge of that. Visiting knights, however, seem to have a different idea of what happens behind closed doors, especially when they see all the things Arthur throws at his servant. So, if the prince can hurt Merlin, why can't they?
