“There are no happy endings for people like me.” El cries with her face in her hands. “It is a fantasy, Will.”
“Wanting a happy life is not a fantasy, El.” He doesn't know how to change her mind. “It is what we deserve. After all this suffering, I think we've earned a happy ending.”

Summary
“I love you. Buck, baby, I love you. You have made me, and my son, the luckiest people in the world by being in our lives.” Eddie whispers into the radio, fighting to breathe in the smoke that clouds him.
As unfair it is to leave him behind, he must let go. It's unfair to keep Buck waiting when it's not going to be long. Hope is the most poisonous in the moments before it is broken, and he will not condemn Buck to that kind of suffering.
He goes with a smile on his face, and the taste of salt and ash on his lips.

“Why do you think you'll never love again?” Dr. Copeland asks, words careful and measured. “You have many years ahead of you, surely you don't think you will never meet a person capable of loving you in the future.”
He knows that people have multiple loves of their lives. After their partner dies, people date again, marry again, and move on. He knows that moving on isn't forgetting the ones you've lost. He knows all of that, but he also knows what waking up beside Eddie feels like.
He doesn't think he'll ever find a feeling that compares.

Summary
Buck would know that regret anywhere, it's been sitting on his shoulders since he walked away from that damned lab. He’s rewound all the possible scenarios in his head, wondering if he could do anything different, to save Bobby. But Buck has always selfishly grateful that Eddie wasn’t there, because if he had been, he would’ve been inside. And he could’ve been the one to… No.
“You, uh, you don’t think I did everything I could to save him?” Buck asks, moving closer.
“I don’t know, Buck.” Eddie tilts his head. “I wasn’t there.”
He leaves, and Buck stays behind.

Summary
Eddie's anger blinds him and the things he does in a fit of rage usually come to bite him back later. His solution to most problems is breaking stuff, destroying the root cause.
Buck likes to fix things. He sees what's broken and he makes it his job to mend them. Dr. Copeland once told him that he liked to fix the problems of others because he was too afraid to face his own.
Eddie likes to break things and Buck enjoys fixing them. What a pair they make.

“You’re thinking,” Will says, skating a finger down the line of Mike’s nose, under his eye, over his cheekbone, then resting, finally, just at the corner of his lips– “about me.”
Oh, Jesus. Mike’s throat is very, very dry. “What?”
Will opens his eyes – slow, a little hesitant – and smiles. “You are,” he says, way, way too smug for Mike’s liking. “You’re turning red!”
“Shut up,” Mike mutters, and Will’s smile grows. “You– I’m just nervous!”
It should be illegal for someone to look this pleased with themselves. “Yeah?” Will says quietly, index finger still hovering at the corner of Mike’s mouth, thumb pressed gently under his chin. “I make you nervous?”
Mike thinks Will might be psychic. (Kind of.) Will is being very irritatingly vague about the whole thing.

Mike’s hand falls from the door knob. Instinctively, he takes a step back, and he turns back around. The door closes gently behind him, and Mike stares at his boyfriend in surprise and in confusion. “What?”
“We’re supposed to be a team,” Will repeats, his voice trembling yet still a bit angry. His eyes are narrowed at Mike—defensive but still on guard, wounded but still ready to fight.
It’s familiar. Somehow, the two of them always end up like this.
