Stanford Filbrick Pines has been wandering the multiverse for a year now, and is believed to have gotten the hang of being a wanted fugitive, hopping through dimensions to evade his largest problems. However, when fleeing from a bounty hunter, he ends up in a dimension that is not as suitable for life as he further suspected. Suffering from the conditions of the planet, he realizes he may have bit off more than he could chew.
At a last-ditch attempt at survival, he invokes his ex-partner, Bill Cipher, who offers him a deal.

Or rather, things are different in a dimension holding the last fragment of Bill Cipher. Respite and hope won't come easily to the members of this cosmic prophecy - not in the least to the Pines Family, who must , as they always do, save the world.

Summary

Ford Pines is a man whose curiosity, and ego cost him (and possibly reality itself) everything. He is a man possessed, (or at least he was) and has spent the past thirty years of his life searching for a way to atone for his sins; willing to sacrifice anything to do so.
When these brothers: two halves of the same bad penny finally find their way back to one another will they be able turn their luck, and forty years of bad-blood and even worse misunderstandings around? If the universe is to survive, they're going to have to.

Ford has been trying to convince Stan to let him into his mind ever since they made up. He just wants to make sure there isn't some kind of huge hole in his head from the memory gun or maybe Bill hiding in the cracks left behind.
He doesn't want to poke through his mind for things that happened while they were apart! Ford would never do that... at least he would never tell Stan if he did.
But instead of a free walk into his brother's mind, he is forced to watch memories click themselves into place without help. He is forced to watch their childhood from Stan's perspective, and it does not match what he remembers.

Years ago, Stan Pines died under strange circumstances. His body was found, funerals happened, Pa was too ashamed to show up, Shermie too busy, Ma went... so did Ford...
And Ford learned a lot while at the funerals, more than he would have liked to. Like the fact his brother lived out of his car, of all places... At least, the car gave him a way to summon his brother's spirit, to talk one last time! Or it should have. It never worked... Ford kept the car anyways, for old times' sake.
In other news, a little over 30 years later, 13 year old Mabel Pines came back to Gravity Falls a year after her brother stayed back there for an "apprenticeship" with their great uncle Ford or whatever... Meaning she was alone to face their parents' divorce. And even now, her brother ignored her for his "anomalies". No big deal. None at all... Not at all the reason why she tried to leave the home at 1 am, only to be met with a homeless-looking ghost with no memories who decided to haunt her.
At least the nameless ghost is a good friend to prank Gravity Falls with!
