In 1993, 4 years after the Graduation of Hawkins High’s class of 89’…
Holly Wheeler still thinks about her abduction six years prior. Everyone seems to have forgotten what had happened to her, expecting her to have moved on. All she has are Derek and Debbie, but it doesn’t help. She wants a role model, and Will Byers could be just that.
Will Byers is living a happy life in New York City, along with an old “friend” from his high school years. He still gets nightmares of Henry. He can’t help but think about how easily he could’ve be the next Vecna.
Mike Wheeler is currently an aspiring author who writes about the stories he once lived, but he’s still living with his family in Hawkins, and is dull and unhappy. His friends have all separated, and he is drowning in guilt from the mistakes he made in high school.
So he tries to reunite with Will, only to find out he might just be too late.

Summary
When Lottie Matthews returns from the wilderness, nothing is the same. Her parents, in a last-ditch effort to reclaim the daughter they have lost, send Lottie to her aunt Karen Wheeler's house for a change of scenery- far away from the terrible truth of the plane crash. As Lottie moves into an already crowded Wheeler house, she is unaware of the rising tensions and the looming presence of Vecna returning. The group in Hawkins is constantly on edge. They were able to save Max and stop the fourth gate from opening, but they all know that Vecna was just going to return stronger, and it was only a matter of time before the world as they know it comes crumbling down.

She squats and squints to try and find the culprit. A small box that she had never touched that was littered with dust. She scrunches her nose as she feels a sneeze coarse though her body before she picks the box up. It was falling apart and the tape that had once kept the sides of the box together had lost the stickiness and feel to the ground. Curiously she opened the box to reveal 2 walkie talkies. They must’ve been from when everything with Henry went down.
Or 10 years after they defeat Henry Holly accidentally breaks Mike and Will's old walkie talkies, Mike is still grieving and doesn't handle it well.

It’s like there’s this… thing, calling her back.
Maybe people are right when they say that Hawkins is cursed.

He doesn’t run into his parents in the end, instead, he runs into Holly.
Holly. Who Mike hadn’t actually seen since he was eighteen years old. Holly, who when he left was nine years old. He had gotten her a set of those Babysitters Club books for Christmas and Will had thrown in a packet of shiny coloured pencils, the kind that have more than one colour in each pencil; Mike’s not sure she ever read the books but he knows she loved the pencils, you could see it in her eyes.
The Holly he left in 1989 wasn’t the Holly he ran into in Bradley’s Big Buy (how it’s still open is beyond him) early Saturday morning, two and a half months after he and Will moved back to Hawkins. He barely recognised her at first, more concerned with picking up coffee for the Hopper-Byers House than anything going on around him, with Joyce at work and Will and El shuttling Hopper to an appointment household errands seemed to have fallen on him.

Will looks at her intently, waiting for her to go on.
“It must have been Christmas. There were lights all over your house. And I walked down the hallway, looking up at them. It was my imagination, it must have been, but... they were lighting up one by one as I went, leading me through the house. I always think of it when I see Christmas lights,” she looks up. Will is tearful, like he remembers this, too, but his eyes are almost sad, like it isn’t a good memory. Or she is possibly just drunk and imagining things.
