cas is known by the other fighter pilots as "angel", for his particularly excellent flying skills and because the others describe his ability to seek and destroy as a little less than "divine wrath". (the other members of the garrison being the other angels balthazar, anna, gabreil, samadeinel, uriel, etc.)
dean, ex marine now wildlife patrol, is hunting, he sees something, too high up and far away to see what it is, but he shoots anyway, and hits. it falls and when he goes to retrieve it, he finds a a pilot with a tangled up parachute near where the bird fell. he takes the pilot home where he nurses the wounds.
over time even though cas heals up he decides not to call in that he's alive, and continues living with dean, florence nightingale syndrome.
when dean is called back to service and breaks up with cas to protect him from the heartbreak if he ends up KIA, but he doesn't tell cas that he's being called back. -

While Ace and Luffy obviously didn't become marines, that knowledge was, literally, pounded into their heads. With Ace captured and set for execution, Luffy uses that knowledge to bust his brother out of prison.
Or: Why Garp shouldn't have taught an upcoming rookie what Marine codes meant because all it led to was the chaos a pirate could use it for.

Yet somehow, within a few pages, I'm all in on the relationship blossoming between him and Marinette! That... WIP Ch14 to reread and review.
OC is a woman called Homura, a Marine Captain (now Commodore); she's red haired, one of Garp's students, with an interesting personality (hilarious sense of humour) and developed (some of my favourite) secondary characters, like her second, Volke, and the adopted (kindof) kid she rescued, Sena!She's strategic, clever and reads like a leader. It feeds into her decision-making, she's very aware of her role but also clearly has her own individual ideas around these concepts. She's currently got a deal with Law, but holds her own.
