Summary
In the month after Hawkins splits open, Will Byers is excluded, haunted, rejected by his best friend, and abandoned during the evacuation forced by the military. Presumed dead by his friends and family, Will is taken in by Vecna, who corrupts his mind and teaches him to harness his new powers. Two years later, Mike returns to Hawkins for Will.
Or, Mike discovers his feelings while Will learns to suppress his. When they reunite, they are, as always, not on the same page.

Castle Byers rises ahead of him.
What’s left of it, anyway.
Broken boards jut from the ground at crooked angles, the remains of towers collapsed inward on themselves. Sheets hang in tatters, damp and heavy with rot. It’s smaller than it used to be. Sadder.
Will approaches it without slowing.
He lowers himself down, stiffly, knees hitting dirt and leaves. Then he crawls forward, hands pressing into the earth, shoulders squeezing beneath splintered wood. Inside, he lies flat on his back, arms at his sides, staring up at nothing.
He does not move.
The forest goes very still.
Or: Will Byers gets possessed. No help arrives. He must try and survive the Upside Down, again, as he fights through many close calls (how is he not dead?)

Summary
Will's a true sorcerer. Right after the truth comes to light in the middle of a battlefield, Mike Wheeler finds himself more amazed and enamored with Will than he'd like to admit. However, they don't have time to celebrate the peace, because not much time passes that Vecna comes back, determined to take what Will loves the most if he isn't by his side on this war. So the Demogorgons come too, taking his mother with them and trying to take Mike too. But despite his mother is now theirs, right before Mike enters the Upside Down, Will jumps and goes with him.
So, they ended up together in the Upside Down. They only had to rescue Will's mother, wherever she happened to be. But they're alone, too, with a long journey ahead of them. Mike knows nothing can go wrong. Because surely nothing has changed between them, right?

Mike is not coping as well as everyone thinks he is. He hides so many secrets that he thinks they will kill him from the inside out. The biggest of all, He is in love with his best friend, and he hates him for it. Mike and Will don't speak much anymore; both seem to resent each other. Slowly, walls start to fall, and they come to understand each other better, but not before they almost kill each other.
This fic takes place right before season five. It loosely follows the plot up until E4S5, from there I will be doing my own thing :) Major trigger warning, this will get dark! and make sure ur not squemish bc things will get pretty gory lol.
