Summary
Eddie answers on the third ring. “Buck?” His voice is rough with sleep, low and gravelly. “Do you know what time it is?”
Buck tries to lift his phone to his mouth, but the motion of his shoulder curling forward shifts his wing again, the tip of one brushing against the sheets. They’re huge. Bigger than he can process. He still can’t make himself look.
The only thing that escapes him is a soft, pained whimper.
Eddie suddenly seems a lot less tired. His voice sharpens instantly. “What’s going on? Are you hurt?”
Another whine tears from Buck as the pain flares, muscles along the top of the wings tensing, fluttering behind him. He can see their span now, crowding the edges of his vision—and somehow, it feels like they’re still growing.
“E-Eddie,” he chokes out. “I-I don’t know. There’s so much blood.”
OR Buck wakes up with wings tearing themselves out of him. Eddie soothes the pain.

Summary
“Hi, I’m Eddie Diaz, Jee-Yun’s Uncle.”
“Mr. Diaz, lovely to put a face to the name.” She shakes his hand quickly. “ She talks about you and your husband all the time, and so does Buck whenever he helps out.”
And Eddie should correct her. He really should. He and Buck are decidedly not married, they’re not even dating. Sure, Eddie’s though about it, of course he has. They’ve been best friends for years, his son loves him, and they’ve been sleeping in the same bed since he and Christopher got back from El Paso. But Eddie’s straight, and Buck isn’t into him like that.
He’s going to correct her. Definitely. He’s going to look at her and say–
“Yep, that’s me.”
Oh.
That’s not…
Or: Eddie chaperones Jee-Yun's school field trip, Buck gets jealous, and things spiral from there

Summary
“First, you pack up at the house and don’t tell me, and now you just sneak in here and hope no one sees you?” Eddie asked, hurt. Buck felt himself tense up at the pain he caused his best friend.
“It’s tragic, isn’t it? I can’t even face the people who matter to me,” Buck told him. He turned to look at Eddie.
Eddie was leaning against the door frame, and Ravi started to walk out. “No, you stay,” Eddie said sternly as he looked at Ravi.
Ravi looked between them and didn’t know what to do. He leaned back against the locker. Buck let out a frustrated sigh. “What, now?” Buck asked angrily.
“You think that no one wants to say goodbye? You just left the group chat like it was nothing. You gave your transfer request to the interim Captain after Gerrard left, like it was nothing. No one knows how to talk to you, Buck. You just cut everyone off.” Eddie said. But Buck didn’t cut everyone off, no, he just started talking less, he just hoped no one noticed, but of course Eddie did. Eddie always noticed when Buck self-isolated.
Or, what happens when Buck moves out, leaves the 118, and ghosts Eddie Diaz?

Summary
"Maybe not," Eddie caved. But he hated seeing the light leaving Buck's eyes as he said it, as if Buck had secretly wanted him to push and do it anyway. Clearly, whatever Tommy said in that interaction made Buck feel small, and Eddie loathed people who made Buck feel small.
"I just. I talked to Maddie about it already, so I'm not like, shutting people out I just..." Buck shook his head. "It's hard to explain."
Eddie gnawed at the corner of his lip. “Even to me?” he thought selfishly.

Or, things begin to fall into place for Buck and Eddie once the Diazes are back in Los Angeles for good.

Summary
Eddie stares at Buck but still, he refuses to make eye contact. “You can talk to me, you know.”
Buck stays quiet for a moment as if he is deciding an appropriate response. “Can I though?” His voice comes out small.
Eddie is taken aback by the response. Sure, they haven’t been attached at the hip like they may have been before everything had to change, but Buck is still his best friend. “Yeah.” He replies, easily and truthfully.
“It doesn’t feel like that.”
“Buck, I don’t want to argue with you.”

Eddie snorts from behind Buck, who tries not to let the realtor—Samuel? Sebastian?—see his eyelid twitch. He pauses anyway.
