Will snaps. “My sister fucking died. So sorry if I didn’t have room to carry your grief on top of my own.” His voice wavers despite his effort to stay steady. He’s been holding himself together with shaking hands, little sleep, and sheer willpower.
Silence crashes between them, suffocating, and unbearable.
“It should’ve been you,” Mike says, words spilling sharp and bitter, soaked in whiskey. He doesn’t even realize he’s said them until they’re already hanging there, rotten and irreversible.
Will flinches, taking a step back, then another, wrapping his coat tighter. His lip trembles. His eyes glass over.
“Fuck you, Mike,” he whispers, voice cracked and raw.
“No. It should’ve been you,” Mike says again, voice rising, desperation clawing through his anger. He shoves Will back against the cold brick wall, stealing his breath, brick biting into his spine.
Mike presses close, breath hot and ragged, reeking of whiskey and regret. His knuckles brush Will’s jaw, forehead to forehead, eyes wild and unfocused. He can’t stop noticing how ruined, how beautiful, Will is, and hates himself for it.
“Mike,” Will says, voice tight, “you’re being cruel.”

The walk to the roof was surprisingly quiet, apparently Tim had taken what Jason said about being sneaky to heart. It took them around ten minutes to get to the apartment complex and another three for Tim to climb up with Jason’s help. As Jason remembered the roof was large and open. “Okay, we’re here, snowman, snowman, snowman!” Jason swears Tim had literal stars in his eyes. Well we came all this way, might as well. With that thought Jason uses his powers to make a little pile of snow, “Let’s get building Timberly.”
Or: I made Jason Elsa, judge me all you want, I don't care. Tim is his little brother, they are a very happy family for all of one chapter.
I have had this idea floating around in my head for a while so I decided to write it. Do I have regrets? Yes. Am I still posting it? Also yes.
