Summary
Ubuyashiki Amane is the wife of the leader of the Demon Slayers. She is a priestess. She has known horror and carnage. She has sat through reports of Slayers who were the only survivors of their groups, who can barely get through the words without crying for the lost or biting back pain from the demon’s blows. She has knelt beside doctors as they hold injured Slayers together, held teenagers down as they are treated for life-threatening wounds, and comforted warriors on their deathbeds as they fade from here to heaven. She is a mother, not just to her five children, but to every person in the Corps, and she holds that esteem in high honor. And every time, no matter how stoic she manages to keep herself, there is never a way to prepare for carnage.
The smell of blood and rot infests her nose as she climbs the mountain to the Tokito children’s home with Nichika and Hinaki, and those smells can only mean something is deeply, deadly wrong.
It takes everything she can not to sprint up the path and leave her children behind.

The combination of liquids smokes a little, but it’s nothing Shinobu isn’t used to by now. She’s done this hundreds of times.

She’ll tell Kanao eventually. Once she knows it’ll work(she’s known it will work), once she’s ready(she’ll never be ready), once she’s come to terms with what she’s going to be doing(she came to terms with her death years ago), once she’s ready to admit to Kanao that she’ll be leaving her too. But Kanao was raised by both her and Kanae…she understands that sometimes, winning at all costs is acceptable as well. There are some losses that cannot be negotiated, some deaths that have no choice but to occur. There are some people you can save, but there will always, always, be those you cannot. Kanao was practically raised in the Corps. She knows this.
To take down an Upper Moon will take the same kind of disregard for human life as the demons have. Shinobu just refuses to disregard any human life but her own.

Summary
There’s a great deal more people buried in the old Meadow now, not just his Covey folk. Everyone who didn’t make it to Thirteen has made it to the Meadow, bones intermingling as they all head together into the hereafter.
Someone had tracked him down for the memorial service. They’d followed the trail of memories, of faint recollections, of parents and grandparents mentioning something years and years on back, all the way to him.
Clerk Carmine had never been much of a singer, not compared to most of his other Covey people, anyway. They could all sing, but Lucy Gray was the singer. He had his fiddle, and that was his lifeblood after his partner had faded away to death. But he sang for his district and played his fiddle through The Old Therebefore. The days of the Covey being travelers are too far gone. Twelve is his so long as his family are cradled in the dirt, and they’ll be there forever.
Clerk Carmine is the last of the old Covey, but he isn’t alone. Funny, though, it ain’t the comforting kind of togetherness, not entirely.

Summary
When his vision came into focus, a figure stood at the center of the field, a boy Sabito’s age. Sunlight illuminated the contours of his silhouette, yet the shadows cast left his features in a void of darkness.
The boy was sticking out his thumb, despite being covered by the shade and blinding rays, Sabito could vaguely make out the glow of a matching red string wrapped around it. Radiating like scarlet hues of the golden hour, glimmering above dips and craters of the vast endless ocean.
The sight was serene, ethereal, almost transcendent.
Sabito opened his mouth to call out to the boy, yet the name stayed stuck on his tongue. Every time he lifted his feet, the steps he took became shorter, shakier and ever more desperate, the grip at his ankles pulling harder than ever before.
As Sabito stepped forward, before he knew it, he was pulled beneath the earth, into an aggressive thrashing current.

Summary
Lifeblood is a highly addictive and poorly understood illegal substance that has circulated throughout Japan since the late 1950s. The drug acts as a stimulant paralleled by no other man-made substance, increasing aggression, euphoria, and physical ability to a state unsustainable by the unmodified human body.
Due to the secrecy surrounding its creation and distribution, little is known about lifeblood's makeup, except that it is largely comprised of highly processed human tissue.
The sole trafficker of lifeblood, and the "ingredients" used to manufacture it, are the Kizuki, an organization defined by its secrecy, and its complete disregard for human life.
The natural enemy of the Kizuki is the Bureau of Public Welfare, tasked with eradicating lifeblood, hoping to strike all evidence of its existence from the record of human history.
However, there are those that remain outside the Bureau's purview, unable or unwilling to join the agency and be subject to its hierarchy. They are vigilantes, seeking to bring down the Kizuki via their own methods. Shinobu Kochou is one of them, and she will stop at nothing to see her quest through to the end, regardless of how much she stands to lose.
