The raven-haired boy thought back on the numerous times Will had acted weird lately. How he never seemed cold anymore. How he’d claimed he “ran hot.” They both knew it was a blatant lie.
“Mike?” Eleven asked quietly from across the room, worry peeking through her stone-faced mask.
“He’s… lying. That’s not Will. That’s not Will.” Mike could hear his heartbeat pounding in his ears. “Get away from him immediately!” he yelled.
Or: Will Byers comes out, but something isn't adding up for Mike.

In which Mike just doesn’t think it’s right that Will doesn’t get to experiment with a guy, but luckily Mike’s a guy, and a good friend, so. Featuring closet hookups, hickeys, really good cuddles in the midst of all the sexual experimentation, sneaking around, a canon-typical amount of boys crying, the Painting Lie!!!, conversations about feelings that don’t actually address any of the important feelings (until they do, and then ohh boy), and the happy ending that they goddamn deserved.
Takes place during the eighteen month time gap before they all graduate, then continues past the ending of the finale.

I think about finding you on the swings in the first grade. I think about the first time Jonathan showed us the DnD board game, and how excited you were to see all the magic stuff. How I kept giving you different characters to draw just to watch the way your eyes lit up. Was I in love with you then?
I remember stealing a tape of The Thing from Nancy and watching it when we were ten. I remember being so scared, but you were fascinated. I stuck it out just to watch you gasp when MacReady blows up the station. I remember grabbing your hand when it happened, and you held on. Was I in love with you then?
I remember the last words you said to me before you went missing. It was a seven. I remember when you came back, when I finally saw you again, and I thought my heart was going to stop. I swear to God, Will, it was like I could breathe again for the first time in days.
Mike and Will get through Vecna, get through a million almost-confessions and even more death scares. Then, three months later, Will finds a box of unsent letters from freshman year under Mike's bed.

She checks again, and yeah, Will is holding a stuffed bear, not a cat. The beloved Tiggy stays firmly attached to his bag, so they aren’t playing with tigers, either.
“So they go back down the mountain, and now all the village people are asking them about the crystal, and Rory is sad thinking they didn’t get it that whole time, but then–”
“Meow. Meow,” Will declares, removing the teddy from the dinosaur’s back and making it do some sort of interpretive dance.

"Robin!" Vickie rattled the handle, no longer trying to hide the anger in her voice. "If you're in there, open right now, because I swear to God, otherwise I'm ending things right-."
But then the door finally swung open. Only it wasn't Robin standing behind it.
In front of Vickie stood a middle-aged, bearded man with a bald head, glasses, and a shirt splattered with blood.Vickie would have liked to tell herself that this was the weird thing – that this disheveled and visibly bruised man, whom Robin had never mentioned, opening the door to the radio station, was the reason her breath hitched. Unfortunately, the situation was even stranger than that.
Because the man was holding a revolver and pointing it directly at Vickie.
OR
After Robin stands her up again, Vickie has had enough. That's why she decides to go to the radio station and get the explanation she deserves.
What she learns there is ultimately harder to swallow than she originally thought.Set a few hours after the events of season 5 volume 1

In the aftermath of season 5 episode 4, Mike cleans the dirt from Will’s skin and realises he’s been in love with his best friend for years. The world can wait. Just for a moment.

Holly gets taken by Vecna and Mike knows he has bigger problems than his unrequited feelings (or so he thinks) for Will Byers. That doesn't stop him from spilling his guts anyway and avoiding the ensuing conversation by diving headfirst into the mindscape to save his baby sister, and maybe find Max along the way. But Will isn't going to let him get away with a confession that easily. AKA Mike is clocked by more than one person in the midst of the apocalypse and figures he might as well go for broke.

then he went serious, ceased all of his laughing and pressed his lips into a line. did he really wanna talk about it ? he needed to. he needed to get it off of his chest. the worst case scenario is that he finds out his best friend secretly hated him.

Mike isn't able to sleep, plagued with an idea that Will secretly hates him.
He takes shelter in the kitchen where he has a thoughtful conversation with Nancy before he's thrown into a spiral and has to talk to Will himself.
