Immediately, the blurry figure’s head snaps over to look at him. “Are you awake, or just talking in your sleep again?” an unfamiliar voice demands—low, with a twitch of an accent that Simon doesn’t recognize.
Simon blinks, but his vision only clears minimally. The ceiling is an off-white blur that smears as he turns his head to look at the stranger. He doesn’t recognize him; bandages obscure the details of his face. “I talk in my sleep?” he asks.
“A lot. It’s annoying.”

They were finally free. The sky had returned to its natural blue, the ground closed up, and the fog of black smoke no longer hung over Hawkins. Mike had to keep reminding himself of that fact. Everything was perfect.
Maybe too perfect.
OR
Post season 5 fix-it, where everyone was Vecna'ed and the world did "end," and now they have to figure out how to get back home. But the way to get home might suck more than if they were to stay in the messed up, distorted version of Hawkins. At least for Mike.

In recovery from his war wounds, Ben finds an advertisement in the newspaper: "Lady, fiancé killed, will marry officer maimed, blinded, or otherwise incapacitated by the War." This lady clearly views herself as something of a nurse in want of a man for whom to care. She is, of course, grief-stricken by the loss of her fiancé and believes herself incapable of finding love or marriage in any normal way. The best she can hope for herself is to be of use to someone in need.
And Ben... well, he is in need.

author has done a such a wonderful job expanding upon these characters. the characterization is so good and the themes in the fic are painfully real and relevant in a way that makes me feel awake? alive. i don’t know im rambling now, words aren’t my thing— but i know i love this fic and will be re-reading this series in the future.

Jim squeezes his eyes shut, shakes his head a bit, and opens them again, looking straight ahead then, and would you look at that, he thinks. This is the worst day.
Across from him, Steve Harrington sits flanked by two Soviet soldiers, beefy mother fuckers too, and he looks exactly as terrible as when they went beneath Starcourt and Jim only had time to think, Kid, what the fuck, I’m putting your ass in a bubble after this, so not that much time has passed, he thinks, he hopes. He’s handcuffed too, hands in his lap, and he smirks at Jim, all teenaged boy bravado that he can see through in a heartbeat.
