I’ve been talking to half-dead trees for two weeks trying to get some kind of answer out of them: A phrase, a word, even some kind of dry cough would have been nice, and you’re discovering hidden messages?!” Keyleth seemed surprised, to say the least.
“Nature talks to me too, just differently.” Vex gave a nonanswer, and shrugging her shoulders, rested her head along Keyleth’s shoulder gently.

Keyleth and Vex get separated from the group and do not know they are being put through trials. At least, Keyleth is. Vex is there to play the role of challenger and guidance as they struggle to make it back to Vox Machina. Unbeknownst to our characters, the rest of Vox Machina (and themselves) are going through the Trials of Amariath, with Keyleth and Vex stranded in the Drowned Hollow.
