You see, the thing is, Angel Dust had run into the King of Hell before. Decades back, not too long after Valentino carved out his own District and dragged all his contracted souls along with him, the King of Hell had stalked his way through a new overlord’s turf with a cold gleam in those fiery irises and a cryptic bargain that promised an escape.
With all the family paintings around the hotel, it wasn’t that out of place to assume the fallen angel was a little different around his own kid. A little less waiting for an excuse to swallow you whole in the not fun way and a little more calmly reserved type of different.
Not crafting rubber ducks in the likeness of the hotel residents and awkward as fuck different.
Angel Dust swears he’s going insane. Or maybe he was a little too high that day he first saw the King of Hell and hallucinated most of what went on.
At least the Radio Demon is less complicated. Just got to keep pretending to have never heard of Alastor before the hotel. It's not like Angel Dust knew two thirds of the Vees before the fallout of Vox’s not-a-breakup or anything like that.

The characters in this story include an unlucky ambassador serving his emperor, a wise traveler eager to learn the secrets of this world, a gravely ill margravine, a fanatically devoted seneschal, the despised daughter of a provincial ruler, a cheerful mercenary, and a fearsome warrior, among many others.
This is the first chapter of my first old novel, which I wrote many years ago. No one read it, so I abandoned the project, but for now I've decided to publish the existing chapters, and perhaps, if you like it, continue it.
